Description: Original Pre WWI German Bayonet SG84/98aA old pattern, Simson & Co. marked on the left Ricosso, Crown W/88 marked on the spine of the blade. 2 Crown Fraktur proofs on the hilt, 2 fraktur proofs on the top of the tang, one fraktur proof on the front of the cross guard. The blade is bright and is in VG+ condition with some patina. The hilt is VG+ with some patina, the crossguard is bright and has some patina, with the unit marking ".86.R.4.144." for the 86th Infantry regiment, 4th company, weapon #144'. The wood grips are in nice shape with some dents on the back of the left side.. The press stud functions perfectly. The steel mounted leather scabbard is in VG+ condition with some patina on the steel mounts. Overall condition is very good plus. This is a scarce bayonet and many of these were officially altered from the 71/84 bayonet by rehilting to fit the Gew.98, this was done prior to WWI and also during the war because of the scarcity of bayonets. This is the first model of 84/98 bayonet. Be sure to look at all of the pictures for a visual description.
