Description: Genuine PLEASANT COMPANY/American Girl *MOLLY’S AFTER SCHOOL PLAY OUTFIT* (Doll NOT Included/Archived) Introduced to the Molly McIntire Historical Collection in 1990 & retired in 2006. Molly’s outfit is referred to as a ‘play outfit’ because she would have had a much more casual lifestyle than girls earlier in history & would not have had as many labor intensive chores; therefore her outfit is more designed for playing in so that nicer clothing won’t get dirty. Molly is one of the earliest girls who would have been able to wear pants - even casually. Pants were not considered proper day-to-day, public or school wear for women & girls. They would only have been worn for play & at-home work. Girls were expected to wear dresses or skirts to school.*SHIRT: Blue long-sleeved plaid flannel shirt with collar & five red buttons up the front Velcro at wrists. The plaid is predominantly blue & green with some white & red stripes. The shirt goes down to the hips but is generally intended to be worn tucked inside the slacks.*PANTS: Blue corduroy pleated, Velcro at one side-two blue buttons for trim; women's & girl's pants fastened on the side in the 1940s.
