Description: "Pioneer Artists of Taos" is a 227 page (plus 97 plates), 6.25"x9.5" hardcover written by Laura M. Bickerstaff and published in 1984 (this is the second, revised and enlarged edition) by Old West Publishing (Denver). The author signed the 5th page. When first published in 1955 it was "the first substantive study of the founders of the Taos art colony." This edition is twice as large with revisions to the original material, four new chapters, and other additions/corrections. Artists covered include Joseph H. Sharp, Oscar E. Berninghaus, Ernest L. Blumenschein, Bert G. Phillips, E. Irving Couse, W. Herbert Dunton, Walter Ufer, W. Victor Higgins, E. Martin Hennings and Kenneth M. Adams (last 4 chapters written by other authors). The plates include reproductions of each artist's work, many in color. The book is in good condition. The dust jacket is rubbed, and torn and creased at front bottom. The orange cloth boards are bumped at the bottom corners, and the spine is cocked at the top. The author's autograph is the only internal mark, and the binding is tight.
