Description: Rare Time Capsule A-Shiki Pilot New Old Stock This pen came out of a small hoard that was set aside in 1942 when the Japanese-American proprietors of an Oakland, California shop were interned (article titled "1942 Time Capsule" online at Vintage Pen News). It is unsold and unused, fully intact with no visible defects, but has not been serviced and is not currently in working condition. Often Japanese pens with ink shutoff valves are mistaken for vacuum-fillers, but in this case the pen does fill by depressing the plunger. The end knob only unscrews part-way due to the hardening of the internal seals, so it is recommended that the pen be professionally serviced even if you just wish to be able to operate the plunger. A notable pen in many respects, in a lovely material that is mostly transparent. This is an export version with gold nib, made well after gold nibs for the Japanese domestic market were discontinued. The instruction sheet is also fascinating, showing how Pilot/Namiki patented their new designs in multiple countries, clearly aiming at international sales all the way up until Pearl Harbor. Payment We are glad to combine shipping charges on multiple purchases, but it is vital that the proper checkout method be used. When buying more than one item, use the Add to Cart button -- NOT the Buy It Now button. View your cart when you are ready to complete the purchase, and if the total shipping charge is incorrect, do NOT pay. Instead, click the Request Total link at the top right and we will send you a corrected invoice. Terms of Sale We strongly believe in full and explicit description of any condition problems or flaws, and in very conservative grading. We stand behind our descriptions -- buy with confidence.
