This view is from a section of the Robin Hood Way (a Long Distance Trail). 3-4 minutes away behind the photographer the trail crosses the A60 (Nottingham-Mansfield road) on the east side of Seven Mile Wood and continues towards Burntstump Country Park. Ahead - within five minutes walk - the trail continues in a north-westerly direction, passing the south side of the farm and continuing towards Papplewick Moor. On the immediate left of the path seen here - down a moderately steep embankment - is the track bed of the disused Calverton Colliery railway. This however follows a south-westerly route towards Bestwood (Butlers Hill) where it previously joined a former main line route. Coal production at Calverton Colliery finally ended in 1999 and with the cessation of mining activities this line was no longer needed. Search our eBay Shop for other Photos Click Here
