Description: This is a rare signed original February 13th, 1929 letter sent from actor PHILIP MERIVALE to a fan in response to a letter he had received praising his performance in the Post-Broadway engagement of the THEODORE CHARLES and JANE COWL play "THE JEALOUS MOON" in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. (The Original Broadway production opened November 20th, 1928 at the Majestic Theatre in New York City and ran for 71 performances before going on the road.) ..... The play starred JANE COWL and the cast included PHILIP MERIVALE, GUY STANDING, HARRY DAVENPORT, HALE NORCROSS, MARION EVENSEN, RICHARD NICHOLLS, LEO STARK, JOYCE CAREY, WILLIAM RANDALL, ROBERT LOWE, BEN LACKLAND, BEN W. BARNETT, GARNER WEED, COBURN GOODWIN, ESTHER STOCKTON and LIONEL HOGARTH ..... BRADY, Jr. and DWIGHT DEERE WIMAN ..... DETAILS: This rare correspondence was typed on the Benjamin Franklin Hotel in Philadelphia where Mr. Merivale was staying during the Philadelphia engagement. The letter was sent to a Mr. Althouse who attached a copy of his original correspondence to Mr. Merivale on the backside. The piece of stationery measures 7 1/8" X 9 1/4" inches and was handwritten and signed in pen by PHILIP MERIVALE. The letter will be accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity ..... CONDITION: (Please Note!) The two pieces of correspondence are attached and there is some staining from glue residue. There are also two small edge tears on the left side and moderate creasing. Despite these flaws, this rare letter will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any theatre aficionado or historian. This item will be carefully packaged in a protective, carded sleeve and backed by stiff cardboard.
