Description: This is a custom 12" figure commemorating one of favorite fictional characters in literature, Phileas Fogg. Fogg is the protagonist in the novel Around the World in Eighty Days by well known literary legend and French novelist, Jules Verne (February 8th, 1828- March 24th, 1905). Jules Verne was a French novelist, poet, and playwright. Verne's inspiration for this character is American entrepreneur, George Francis Train and adventurer, William Perry Fogg. The character Phileas Fogg is an eccentric man of means that has a perfect orderly life (he knows how many steps he walks as well as the exact temperature he likes his shaving water). Fogg actually fires a servant for the incorrect temperature of his shaving water. The story centers around Phileas Fogg's wager of £20,000 with members of the London Reform Club that he can circumnavigate the world in eighty days or less. Fogg sets out with his new French servant Jean Passeportout to win his bet, unaware that they are being followed by a detective named Fix who believes Fogg has robbed the Bank of England. If you like a great adventure story with interesting characters, check this book out or you could possibly catch one of a number of movies adapted from the classic novel, by Jules Verne one of the greatest authors of all time.
