Description: Peterson Pipe of the Year for 2007 Limited Edition 529/1000 Estate Briar Pipe Peterson pipes generally need no introduction, but just in case youโre unfamiliar: in 1876, a Latvian named Charles Peterson immigrated to Ireland and was hired making pipes by Frederick and George Kapp. After rising through the ranks to become head craftsman, Peterson bought into the Kappโs business, which was renamed, Kapp & Peterson (K&P). Since then, Peterson has become one of the most recognizable names in pipe smoking and continues to produce high quality pipes from their headquarters in Dublin. Petersonโs annual Pipe of the Year (POY) series is their top line pipe each yearand my favorite versions of these pipes are the ones that end up inaugurating wholly new shapes for Petersonโs catalog. The 2007 POY, from back when the POY pipes were simply stamped โLimited Edition,โ is an example. Ultimately becoming the B27, it is an eight-sided panel billiard, but whose equilateral proportions and overall design lean closer to early-20th century pipesโsuch as Petersonโs own, but more generally in Europe as a whole. The design also features a sterling silver spigot, engraved with fittingly Celtic patterns, and an ebonite fishtail stem. As with other Peterson Pipes of the Year, and as the stamping indicates, the 2007 was a strictly limited edition piece with only 1000 of these pipes produced. The condition is very good - not perfect. The pipe has been professionally refurbished by Briarville, but there is some darkening on the rim, the chamber has been over-reamed and is slightly out of round.
