Personal Hygiene Grooming Historical Vintage Films 1920s to 1960s On DVD

Description: Please read & note: This is a Rights holding DVD created & produced by me and is not factory made or sealed. I strive to produce the best DVD's possible from the sometimes VERY old Public Domain material. Films that are public domain are unpreserved and not professionally re-mastered. I re-master all of my films myself to the best possible quality achievable. My DVDs are not the quality of todays Modern DVDs or Bluray discs. If you are looking for this kind of quality then these discs are not for you. All pictures are actual screen captures from the DVDs. Please note this when purchasing, but also know that all of the films are very watchable. To keep my prices as low as possible all my DVDs are delivered in plain paper DVD sleeves and the DVDs title will be labeled on the back of the DVD envelope. This way you can write the contents of the DVD on the DVD yourself if you want to. (See picture). All of my DVD's come with a menu for easy film selection. Total runtime of this DVD is 133 minutes. Item specifics are: Film 1: "Personal Hygiene" (1950) B&W Runtime 32 minutes A film you will remember long after others are forgotten. This U.S. Army production introduces us to "Homer," a hillbilly-type who smells real bad. The guys in his barracks have to figure some way to encourage him to take a bath. They hit upon the idea of creating new lyrics for folk songs, and at this point the film quickly spins out of control, as Homer's loveable gang of GIs warbles tune after tune, such as "Fresh And Clean," and "Wash Your Socks." Amazing. The soldiers frequently burst out into song, as if it were MGM in the 1950's that it stretches into the bizarre and comical. Songs like 'What are you going to do with a dirty soldier?' 'Blisters On Your Feet' and most especially 'Come a fly-yi-yippee-i-yay' (about diseased flies). This is about as far fetched a film you're going to find!! Hilarious! Film Release Date: 1950 Film Entered the Public Domain: 1979 Film 2: "Body Care and Grooming" (1948) B&W Runtime 17 minutes Exhaustive (and sexist) explanation of personal care and daily habits of cleanliness, demonstrating how to keep the skin, hair, nails, and teeth clean and healthy. This college-level health film is not only about the importance of good personal hygiene, but also stresses the "appropriateness" of dress, meaning dress like everybody else. A great example of 50's conformity at it's most insistent. Hygiene films are almost always fun, there's something so earnest and simple about them. Film Release Date: 1948 Film Entered the Public Domain: 1977 Film 3: Care of the Hair and Nails (1951) B&W Runtime 9 Minutes A fairy tale character uses magic to help youngsters learn good health habits. This educational film points out hygiene care tips for children in a laughable way. The OCD fairy tells us many habits to get into about hair and nail care. She advises Don't use anybody's comb but your own. She chastises the girl in the film: Alice, you go right back and brush your hair until it shines, then informs the viewer to brush "100 strokes or more" to make it "gleam and glisten", even for boys. She also tells us washing hair every week is a good habit Film Release Date: 1951 Film Entered the Public Domain: 1979 Film 4: "Good Health Practices Part 1" (1953) COLOR Runtime 10 minutes The makers of Soapy the Germ Fighter are back to teach other things to keep us healthy. Young Jim and Judy learn about proper eating, keeping clean, proper rest and good toilet habits. The enthusiastic narrator reminds us not to be bashful or silly about bathroom habits and that we should go whenever we feel like it. Film Release Date: 1953 Film Entered the Public Domain: 1982 Film 5: "Good Health Practices Part 2" (1953) COLOR Runtime 10 minutes Shows Judy and Jim's good health practices related to teeth, eyes, ears, nose, and posture. The setting is a vacation day spent at home and at the beach. Emphasizes the importance of one's senses in many everyday pleasures. In the evening Judy and Jim continue good health practices while eating, studying, watching television, and going to bed. Film Release Date: 1953 Film Entered the Public Domain: 1982 Film 6: "Soapy The Germ Fighter" (1951) COLOR Runtime 10 minutes A Bar of Soap Visits a Wannabe Cowboy Young Billy Martin is a rather dirty young man. Always playing cowboy on a daily basis; always getting rather dirty. One night Billy is visited in his bedroom by a human-sized walking talking bar of soap named Soapy. Soapy introduces himself to Billy by making a lot of interesting claims. For starters Soapy claims to be Billy's best friend, only Billy doesn't know this yet. Then Soapy invites Billy to be his partner. Soapy then begins to refute Billy's previously held beliefs regarding the sissyness of washing by showing a cowboy washing his hands. This short film has loads of laughs... and you might learn something before its done. Film Release Date: 1951 Film Entered the Public Domain: 1980 Film 7: Personal Hygiene for Young Women (1920) SILENT B&W Runtime 13 Minutes A Bray SILENT Educational Film. Personal Hygiene for Young Women. Produced Under the Supervision of The Surgeon General of the U.S. Public Health Service. Film Release Date: 1920 Film Entered the Public Domain: 1949 Film 8: "General Health Habits" (1928) SILENT B&W Runtime 13 minutes SILENT Personal hygiene, 1920s-style. Curious and interesting on a historical level. Film Release Date: 1928 Film Entered the Public Domain: 1957 Film 9: "Color it Clean" (1966) COLOR Runtime 19 minutes Cleaning toilets isn't rocket science but it's nice to see that the people in this film take their job very seriously and are proud of what they do. This is well shot film with an interesting narration by the janitorial staff of the University of Illinois at Urbana. The serious tone of the film adds a little camp fun. Worth a watch. Don't forget to flush! Film Release Date: 1966 Film Entered the Public Domain: 1995 I claim ownership and rights to this media. All the films on this DVD have been researched and are copyright free or the copyrights have expired due to non renewal.
