Description: Pandanus / Twist Palm / Pre- Palm Petrified Wood Slab 1.8 Pounds 9 5/8"x 6"x 1/2" Unidentified Rare Specimen 2 Faces cut - Not polished - Rough SlabMinor Fractures - Not Stabilized Ring for scale only 1" This is a unique and wonderful specimen of Wyoming Petrified Wood from the " Pandanus Forest Zone ". It is a one of a kind specimen of this prized and highly sought after material. It may need to be stabilized before polishing. Wyoming is the only known place on Earth where you can find Petrified Pandanus / Pre- Palm Wood. Quality pieces like this were probably picked up around 80 years ago when the old Yellowstone Highway cut through this remote place on Government Slide near Beaver Rim in Fremont County Wyoming. Like Wyoming Jade, Prospectors hunted it long before most of us were born and the greatest pieces went into somebody's garden someplace in time. Pandanus / Pre- Palm Petrified Wood is an extremely unique wood. It has what we call Tiger Stripes, from the preservation of the outside Fronds near the bark exterior which is highly sought after for Jewelry making or Slabbing. It also displays the pin hole center core that many ancient Palm trees share in common. Beautiful peacock colors have also been found in Pandanus wood along with pockets of Botryoidal Chalcedony. There are many parts to the Petrified Pandanus Tree. These include the Top, Main Trunk, Air Roots, Ground Roots, Fruit Pods and Trunk Base. This would be a great piece to complement anyone's Petrified Wood Collection or it could even be studied further under a Microscope. Photos have been taken both dry, and with oil only on the cut faces to enhance the true internal colors of this specimen. Light Contrast may have been turned down in some photos to highlight surface textures. Please consider a Best Offer. Most fair offers are accepted. Our prices are not written in stone!
