Endangered twice, English yew was over-harvested almost to extinction centuries ago for long bows. Pacific Yew bark is used to make the cancer drug taxol and there was some talk a number of years ago about listing it on CITES but the decision was made that it did not need CITES protection due to existing local preservation efforts.
