Description: The Grand Antique Mall, located in Cincinnati, Ohio, presents a J. B. OWENS Utopia Ewer / Tankard / Vase, 12-1/4”H, with single handle, signed by Cecil Excel. Signed with an orange E beneath the handle, near the base. Shape number 1015. Circa: 1898. Front features a trio of cherries. Back shows shades of brown flowing into burnt orange. Impressed marks on underside: OWENS UTOPIA. 1015. 1 or T. ABOUT OWENS POTTERY: Founded by J. B. Owens in Roseville, Ohio, 1885, the pottery made its move to Zanesville, Ohio, in 1891. Introduction of the Utopian line soon brought Owens Pottery prizes, awards and international acclaim. After 1906, the marks on Owens pottery included the initials “J” and “B” inside a large “O”, as well as the words ART POTTERY. Owens ceased art pottery production in 1907. CONDITION: Very Good. No cracks, chips, hairlines or repairs. Crazing. 3 tiny factory bubbles in the glaze near the handle (view photo #7). DIMENSIONS: 12-1/2”H x 7”W including handle. Base Diameter=5 inches. WT=3.05 lbs.
