Description: ORIGINAL, AUTHENTIC, RARE cruise patch from the US Navy's USS AMERICA (CV-66) 1991-1992 "post-Desert Storm" Cruise. It says "WE'VE GOT THE MED COVERED" / "MED LIFE INSURANCE CO". USS America (CVA/CV-66) was one of three Kitty Hawk-class supercarriers built for the United States Navy in the 1960s. Commissioned in 1965, she spent most of her career in the Atlantic and Mediterranean, but did make three Pacific deployments serving in the Vietnam War. She also served in the Persian Gulf War's operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. America was the first large aircraft carrier since Operation Crossroads in 1946 to be expended in weapons tests. In 2005, she was scuttled southeast of Cape Hatteras, after four weeks of tests, despite a large protest of former crew members who wanted to see her instituted as a memorial museum. She was the largest warship ever sunk. This patch has "no" backing, a "merrowed black" border, has a "fully embroidered" background, NO velcro, and the dimensions are shown in the photos...the ruler on the right is 6". This is from a retired US NAVY CAPTAIN's collection I just acquired, and hope to find it a good home. It was "MY" Cruise (the last A-6 Intruder Cruise), but I already have one.This is an ORIGINAL ONE-OF only, so grab it while you can and is an AUTHENTIC patch obtained by the officer during one of his many tours/deployments.
