Description: This is a really cool hat! Constructed of "Ersatz" (i.e. translated "replacement material") where the fabric was constructed with a mix of paper filler in the wool due to the shortage of materials from the British naval blockade of Germany. Grey leather sweatband. Visor is also "Ersatz" made of a pressed paper / cardboard fiber then field-grey lacquered on top. These green / field grey visors are very cool and historically very desirable among collectors. The wool top is more of a dark grey than field grey / green. No moth holes or tracking or staining or discoloration of any kind. Excellent condition and firm stitching throughout. An awesome example of how Germany made do with little and still produce quality hats. A rare find you don't want to miss!
