The factory was part of the Ernst Heinkel Flugzeugwerke group. From 1936 onwards, this factory mainly built fighter aircraft such as the Heinkel He 111, the Heinkel He 177 and the Junkers Ju 88 for the Luftwaffe. Famously, the Oranienburg Airfield is where tests were performed for high altitude flights. Experimental units and special units were stationed at the airfield, jet aircraft and composite aircraft like the Mistel configurations. Arado Ar 234, the first ever two and four engine jet bomber and reconnaissance airplanes were tested here.
