Socialist Youth Union (Czech Socialist Youth Union (SSM)) was an organization operating in the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic between 1970 and 1989, bringing together young people aged 15-35. SZM was founded in 1970, after the invasion of the troops and during the ongoing normalization, as a successor organization to the Czechoslovak Youth Union, which disbanded in March 1968. The emergence of this unified youth organization (a pioneer organization - PO SZM was also a part of the SZM) as well as its activities were directed by the Communist Party.
