Description: Wonderful historic French 18th Century engraving coming out of my Living Estate Sale this day. Created circa 1790 by French engraver Francois Rolland Elluin (1745-1810), this fine Neoclassic Romanticism era work is created after the original painting by Jean Demosthene Dugourc (1749-1825). I am so happy to add that the work sits in its original frame and mounted hardboard backing with affixed original gallery label from P. Waldenberg gallery, where I believe it was originally last sold circa 1920 from their 354 address location on the famed Paris Street Rue St. Honore. adjacent to the Louvre Museum. I have included photos from a couple other listing of fine art works featuring the same gallery stamp. Although the location remained the same, at some point the name was changed to Waldenberg Freres. They boasted a Medaille D'Or (gold medal) designation and their location and other listings indicate they dealt with very fine art holdings. I do not know the reason for the 2nd named address of Meme Maison 1 et 3 Rue de Vienne. A little telephone history research may better designate the age of the gallery affixed stamp based on the telephone listed as CENTRAL 16-82, and when that exchange format would have been used in Paris. In any case it is a fine piece. The engraving oval border measures approx. 31cm x 41cm and the full sheet cut to fit the oval frame measures 42cm x 52cm. There is a darkening of the sheet on the outer oval margin where it sat in contact with the face matting for the past 100 + years. These two great artisans Dugourc and Elluin were well acquainted and collaborated on other works and this fine example is truly a great piece of French art history. As always, my Living Estate Sale is all about finding proper new homes for my lifetime collection so I offer free shipping, a donation to charity and utilize the "Best Offer" format for all fair buyer considerations.
