Description: This auction is for an original Hollywood contract between Kenneth McGowan and 20th Century Fox Films. The original contract was dated September 3, 1940. Also includes a rider dated February 20, 1941, granting Macgowan leave to make films for the U.S. Government. Finally there is a rider and letter agreeing that as Macgowan was on leave for 83 weeks and 2 days for the purposes of the previous rider - making films for the U.S. Government during World War II - his contract shall be automatically extended for that period of time. From the Macgowan estate. Purchased at auction. Feel free to ask any questions. Good luck and thanks for bidding ! Kenneth Macgowan was a famed Oscar-winning Hollywood Producer, a Professor of Film and Theatre Arts at UCLA (where Macgowan Hall is named after him in his honor), and an author of numerous books and articles. Prior to moving west for his film career he was a theatrical producer, and a close friend of Eugene O'Neill. He gave Katherine Hepburn her first stage role. Among the films he is best known for include Alfred Hitchcock's Lifeboat, Little Women, Lloyd of London, Young Mr. Lincoln, In Old Chicago, The Return of Frank James, and many more.
