Description: ORIGINAL 1939 AARON BOHROD (1907-1992) 'NEW ORLEANS STREET' LIMITED EDITION SIGNED LITHOGRAPHThis is a wonderful original. I have owned an original Aaron Bohrod painting in the last decade or so and the collector that sold me that also let me purchase this wonderful lithograph. It has been in my personal collection since then. For those not familiar with the artist, I have included his biography below. This is a wonderful example of his early work. An outstanding pre war view of New Orleans with an African American woman walking in the scene. Image measures 9 x 12 inches and is in outstanding condition. A great prich impression. Signed in pencil below the image lower right. Not numbered but this is known to be an edition of 250. Print shows some consistent toning and though I have not removed it from the frame, I believe there is a toning box from the matte. The print shows rippling so it is not laid down. Original black frame is complimentary and ready to hang. Frame measures 16 3/4 x 20 1/2 inches. He studied at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and the Art Students League of New York, eventually earning Guggenheim fellowships which permitted him to travel throughout the country, painting and recording the American scene. His early work won him widespread praise as an important social realist and regional painter and printmaker and his work was marketed through Associated American Artists in New York. During World War II, Bohrod worked as an artist, first in the Pacific for the United States Army Corps of Engineers, then in Europe for Life magazine. In 1948, he accepted a position as artist in residence, succeeding John Steuart Curry, at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, and remained in that capacity until 1973. Bohrod developed the Trompe-l'oeil style of highly decorative, detailed still life paintings which gives an illusion of real life. It was this style with which he became internationally identified. Bohrod died on April 3, 1992, at the age of 84. His works can be found in the collections of many American museums, and the Aaron Bohrod Gallery at the University of Wisconsin-Fox Valley was named in his honor."
