Description: Here's an early pontiled 6 1/2"tall oval Dr.S.S.Fitch medicine bottle dug from an 1850s outhouse privy pit.... DR.S.S.FITCH / 707 B.WAY, N.Y (bold emb on front panel)........Open Pontil....crude drippy applied tapered lip....aqua......oval with rounded shoulders...6 1/2"tall....Excellent condition with no chips or damage. A small natural pontil chip on bottom from when the pontil rod was snapped off. Some light haze, but not bad. Dr.S.S.Fitch was listed at 707 Broadway in New York from 1847-1853, when he moved across the street to 714 Broadway..This generic medicine bottle was used by Dr.Fitch, who produced a variety of patent medicines...After 50 years of digging and collecting we have decided to part with many of our bottles (to make room for more..haha)...so keep watching our listings as many rare treasures are being found! ....
