Sloane. She was a resident of New York City and Florida and had a home in Monaco. She was awarded the Legion of Honor by the French Government for services rendered to Atlantique, a Franco-Americ an student exchange program. (NY Times)During the First World War , La Motte-aux-Bois was close to the front, the Baroness de La Grange, owner of the castle, made it and its surrounding land and farms available to the British and the Commonwealth armed forces. She left part of her fortune there and welcomed prominent personalities, such as Edward VIII . She was made "mother" of their army, the only French to have received this title, and received several tributes from the grateful British. The castle of La Motte-aux-Bois was built in 1065 by Robert the Frisian, count of Flanders(World of the French Chateau)**The book is in good plus condition for its age. No dust jacket. The 1st few pages has a bit of spotting (or foxing). There is light toning in book. The edges have some bumping and very minor tears. There are no remainder marks, not ex-library.
