Description: OMAHA CIVIC AUDITORIUMThe Omaha Civic Auditorium, located in Omaha, Nebraska, was a multi-purpose arena that played a significant role in the city's sports and entertainment landscape from its opening in 1954 until its closure in 2014. With a seating capacity of around 9,300 for basketball and other events, the auditorium was a hub for various sports teams, concerts, and community events for over six decades. Though the arena hosted a range of athletic competitions, concerts, and political events, it is particularly remembered for being one of the home venues for the NBA's Kansas City-Omaha Kings during the early 1970s.From 1972 to 1975, the NBA's Kansas City-Omaha Kings, formerly the Cincinnati Royals, split their home games between Kansas City, Missouri, and Omaha. This arrangement allowed the team to tap into two markets, and the Omaha Civic Auditorium became a temporary home for the franchise. During this era, the Kings featured notable players such as Hall of Famer Nate Archibald, who led the league in both scoring and assists during the 1972–73 season. Although the team moved exclusively to Kansas City in 1975, their brief stint in Omaha left a mark on the city, giving local fans a rare opportunity to witness NBA basketball.Beyond the NBA, the Omaha Civic Auditorium hosted various other sports teams. The Creighton Bluejays men’s basketball team played there before moving to the larger CHI Health Center in 2003. The arena also served as home to minor league hockey teams, including the Omaha Knights and later the Omaha Lancers. The Omaha Racers of the Continental Basketball Association (CBA) also used the Civic Auditorium in the 1990s, further cementing its role in the city's sports history.Despite its eventual demolition in 2016, the Omaha Civic Auditorium remains an important part of the city’s sports and cultural history, remembered for hosting a diverse range of teams and events, including the short-lived but memorable NBA era with the Kansas City-Omaha Kings.
