There is a small section naming the members of the Lawrence Guard, as near as they were able to tell.There is a page and a half titled "Directory of New Castle, Pa. for 1840 - 1841, Copied from Harris Business Directory Including Names of Residents Over 21 Years of Age". This section discusses the natural resources and the existing businesses and churches of the city. It then takes a full page to name all of the business owners and the type of business they ran.There are two pages under the title of "New Castle To-Day" . It mentions that the population was 38,000 people. There was a "Paid fire department; nine hose and hook and ladder companies; seven engine houses; 19 fine horses; 64 fire alarm boxes; 344 fire plugs". It mentions Cascade Park at Big Run Falls as being the finest picnic ground in Western Pa. It also discusses the industries in the city.Finally, there is one more page listing the members of two more committees.The booklet is in good condition. It has some heavy soiling on the front cover, and lighter wear on the back cover. The front cover has three corner creases on the bottom corner. There is a bottom corner crease on the first page, too. The pages have a few faint finger smudges, but no writing, stains, or tears.This is a great look back at the city and its park, and a nice item for anyone interested in New Castle history.
