Description: Well executed modernist painting by Raymond Baxter Dowden. Painting itself measures approximately 23" W x 18". In the frame the piece measures 25" x 20". Below is Dowden's 1982 obituary from the New York Times. "Raymond Baxter Dowden, former chairman of design at the Cooper Union School of Art, died Monday at St. Vincent's Hospital. He was 77 years old and lived in Manhattan. He joined the Cooper Union faculty in 1934, serving as a teacher and administrator for 34 years. He retired in 1969. Mr. Dowden also directed Yale University's summer art school at Norfolk, Conn., from 1952 to 1959. His paintings and drawings have been exhibited at the Whitney Museum, the Chicago Art Institute and Hunt Botanical Library in Pittsburgh. He is survived by his wife, the former Anne Ophelia Todd."
