Description: ARTIST: Arling Gade (1919-2011) was a very productive Danish artist, who started painting when he was 12 years old. There is a funny story about how he, as a young artist, had put up his paintings on a board fence trying to sell them to passers-by, until finally an American once came by and bought all of them. He paints many different scenes, but among his favorites are animals, farmers and children at play. PAINTING: Oil on canvas. The painting is a rendering of a small flock of mallards, 2 males and 2 females, near and in a small stream. The mallard is the most common duck in Denmark and can often be found near human habitation. The most popular kind of duck eaten for Christmas is a domesticated duck, which descends from the mallard.
