Description: Unique and colorful ad for O'BRIEN'S "LIQUID VELVET" Wall Paint. This ad features both of the very popular Meadows sisters, Audrey and Jayne. The ad was carefully removed from a damaged March 1955 issue of Better Homes and Gardens magazine. It measures 4 7/8" x 8 1/4". Ad is titled "GREATEST PAINT SENSATION in 50 YEARS." It shows a few of the over 400 color chips available. It is in very good condition. I will place it inside a plastic sleeve and add a piece of white foam board for protection while mailing by USPS Ground Advantage in a bubble envelope. I'll mail the same day, or next day after payment is received. A little history and background on this company: The O’Brien Corporation was founded in South Bend in 1875 in a small shop on what now is Lincoln Way West. The founder was Patrick O’Brien, who had developed a revolutionary new quick-drying primer for the carriages and wagons of that era. Patrick had once worked for the Studebaker Brother’s wagon company.O’Brien selected the site of the company’s facilities on West Washington Avenue after fire destroyed the original O’Brien Electric Priming Company’s plant. Between 1882-85, several buildings were constructed on South Bend’s west side and in 1893, the corporate name was changed to the O’Brien Varnish Company, which remained until 1966 when the company assumed the name of Fuller-O’Brien. Their "Liquid Velvet" paint first appeared in 1906. It was one of the first ready-to-use interior flat wall paints, so that the layman could buy it, rather than having a professional painter mix it at the site. Liquid Velvet was still a staple of the company until 1975. Uniroyal Adhesives and Sealants bought out part of the Fuller-O’Brien company and still operates on West Washington Avenue in South Bend.
