Description: FANTASTIC MYSTIC DRAGON READY FOR FLIGHTOAXACA WOOD CARVING ALEBRIJE MEXICAN FOLK ART BY THE HIGHLY TALENTED SECOND GENERATION WOOD CARVER DAVID BLAS JR WONDERFUL WORK IN AN ECONOMICAL PIECE! WHIMSICAL AND FUN! BEAUTIFULLY CRAFTED!! One of our favorite trips on our most recent travels in Oaxaca was to the village of San Pedro Cajonos! Situated high in the mountain Sierras three hours from Oaxaca City, this is one of the most idyllic settings that one may ever find! Perched at the top of the mountains, with sweeping views of the surrounding canyons and distant pueblos, San Pedro Cajonos kisses the clouds and shines in its art forms. One of the most famous of San Pedro Cajonos artists, is the Blas Family of wood carvers. Their style is so unique and can be identified readily upon sight. Bright colors, and fine painting are their hallmarks. This cool dragon is the latest addition to the fantastic Blas Family carvings that we carry. It is from David Blas' son David Adrian, a second-generation wood carving that is carrying on the traditions taught to him at a young age by his famous father. There is nothing better for us than to see a wonderfully talented young carver preserving these Mexican Folk Art traditions! I love the unique nature of this dragon carving, with the incredible detail on the throat, the carved in nostrils, and the horn on top of its snout. There is such a great sense of motion to the piece as well, with its sweeping tail, bent knees, upright wings and raised head. This is a fantastic, yet affordable piece! The wings are removable for safer shipping, and the piece was signed by the artist. Approximate Measurements: 8 1/2" high x 11 7/8" long x 3 3/4" deep
