As an officer in the U.S. Army Corps of Topographical Engineers he specialized in mapping the United States border, including the Texas–Mexico border, and the Gadsden Purchase border, 1844–1855, and published lasting scientific reports on the border region. February 17, 1848-Ordered that 10,000 extra copies of each of the reports of Lieutenant Emory, Captain Cooke, and Lieutenant Albert, be printed for the use of the House; and that the said number, 250 copies be furnished for the use of Lieutenant Emory, Captain Cooke, and Lieutenant Albert, respectively. Thirtieth Congress-First Session, Ex. Doc. No. 41. Published in Washington D.C. by Wendall and Van Benthuysen in 1848. There is foxing to the pages. A private library plate and bookseller label inside front cover. A date stamped on free end sheet and a name and date stamped inside the rear cover (C. M. Wallace Mar 12, 1894). Page 60 and the following illustration are loose from the binding. Page 161 is dog-eared.
