Within a year, he issued the renowned Edict of Caracalla, extending full Roman citizenship and its accompanying privileges to all free men across the Empire. The baths he commissioned stand as prominent tourist attractions in present-day Rome. His bloodthirsty life was cut short by assassination in 217.
