Description: LONG WAVE UV Excellent large Nepheline Syenite "Yooperlite" with plenty of fluorescent Sodalite crystals. Nice fluorescence on this one, quality large ones like this are rare to find. A long wave UV light source is needed to see this, and I recommended a Convoy S2 or similar model with the band pass filter, it is what I use. These Syenite rocks can have different grain sizes, mineral mixtures throughout the rock body, or go through a metamorphic change or partial meta change. This is why they may look different in daylight such as this one which has a mix of larger and finer grain sizes which is fascinating and the majority of the fluorescent Sodalite is in the fine grained area. Rounded from tumbling around in lake Michigan. Collected in Milwaukee county Wisconsin along the lake Michigan shoreline. 487 grams. 4" length. NOTE! I use a ConvoyS2 LONG WAVE 365nm UV flashlight with a band pass filter installed for finding these and the photos, you will need one as well to see the fluorescence as nicely as seen in photos.
