Description: “Naples +” (1931) 16mm Film Home Movie, By Ship, Algiers, Pompeii, Athens GreeceHopefully the video will be approved by eBay soon. I have loaded the video clip on YouTube: https://youtu.be/UD8fWCGwXe8 Incredible footage from a cruise trip in 1931 opening in Algiers, through Naples, Pompeii and ending in Athens. There seems to be a portion missing from the start since the film starts with text frames that are a continuation of previous footage. The filmmaker has edited in title frames and portions of what looks like souvenir footage in with their own film footage. The street scenes in Naples and Athens, buildings, cruise staff out and about in the towns and the many information frames introducing footage are really amazing. Some of the shots with titles are of stills and I’m not sure how they did that. Camera magic of the 30s. Great historical footage. FILM CONDITION: The film appears to be in good condition, ran smoothly on a manual thread Revere projector and has no detectable vinegar syndrome. Some streaking and speckling on portions. There are clicks at each of the splice point, but the film did not lose track. The souvenir film portions have a yellow hue. ODOR: film has a mothball odor. 7” reel (approximately 14.5 min) Rough timeline: 1 min - title frames introducing Arab quarter in Algiers, Arab high school, moorish dancers, old fort and waterfront in Algiers 30 sec - intro frames, Algiers harbor from land, from Algeria to Italy title frames, Naples harbor February 10 1931 title frames 2 min - pan of Naples’s harbor, street scenes in Naples, buildings, statue, horse drawn wagons, cars, trollies, people, police 1 min - Galleria Umberto from street and inside, cruise conductor, Naples waterfront, La France ship, Mount Vesuvius smoking 30 sec - home near Pompeii, cruise managers posing for film 4 min 15 sec - Pompeii title frames, still shots of city buildings with title frames, Temple of Iside, house of Cornelius Ruffo, house of tragic poet, store house of olive oil, house of Mark Olconius, house of the bear, avenue of plenty, the triangular forum, roofed theatre of tragedy, avenue of tombs, the public hall, avenue of fortune, public baking oven, temple of Apollo, school of the gladiators, house of Faunus, temple of the genius Augustus, house of Pansa, street of god mercury, the civic forum, home of Teutonic emperor, interior of house of Vetius, the amphitheater, mold of Pompeii woman and dog 30 sec - title frames Italy to Greece, Piraeus harbor, pan of harbor, central museum in Athens 1 min - streets of Athens, trollies, cars, people, hotel grand bertagne, flower market, city center sculpture, oldest cemetery in Greece, pan of cemetery 15 sec - clip from what appears to be souvenir footage of castle temple 15 sec - home movie footage of castle temple 45 sec - souvenir footage of Parthenon 1 min - home movie footage of Parthenon, pan, wife in front, pan of architecture, pan from a distance 15 sec - souvenir footage of Odeon Theatre 30 sec - home movie footage of Odeon Theatre, pan shots 30 sec - souvenir footage, temple of Nike 39 sec - home movie of temple of Nike, the erectheum and caryatides, close ups and distant Please see photos to verify item condition.
