Description: Nice named example of the World War II period enlisted man's service cap, as worn with the Winter Service Uniform. This is a private purchase hat, which utilizes a finer quality wool, as well as higher quality leather components. The hat was manufactured by Leercraft, whose logo is printed under the crown. The wool exterior is not quite a fine doeskin, but is definitely softer than your standard service cap off the rack. The leather sweatband is intact, and bears the last name and Army Serial Number of its original owner ("Price 42060513" written in ink on the sweatband). This corresponds to Private Raymond K. Price, who was drafted in 1943 (a picture of his information from the NARA website is included in the gallery). If memory serves me correctly, I believe he was in the Transportation Corps during World War II. All things considered, a nice named service cap! The hat remains in good condition, showing signs of age, use, and wear. The exterior shows minor moth tracking, but is generally fine. There is an area of white scuff-like soiling, as seen. Minor fading, age toning, and drying evident. Leather rear strap shows cracking and crazing, with a few areas of sporadic finish loss. Please see the pictures for more detail. Guaranteed 100% authentic in every respect for life. Be sure to see our other listings for more historical antiques and militaria. Be sure to follow out store as new inventory is added daily.
