Description: Buckingham ‘25th Anniversary of the Falklands Conflict, South Georgia Recaptured’ first day cover with first class ‘Lest We Forget’ WW1 Poppy commemorative stamp issued November 9 2006. This has a label attached ‘25th April 1982, British Forces take South Georgia’. Postmarked:- 25th Anniversary of The Falklands Conflict, Portsmouth, 25 April ‘07. This first day cover is certified on a small label on the reverse of the cover, it states:- Captain B Young DSO RN, Lt Cdr Ian Stanley, Captain M E Barrow CVO DSO RN and Rear Admiral Gough will sign no more than 105 Buckingham, Falklands South Georgia recaptured covers. This is cover 42 of 105. The Cover has the signatures of four personnel. They are:-Rear Admiral Gough, was the Commander of Hospital Ship SS Uganda. Lieutenant Commander Ian Stanley Royal Navy, was a Wessex helicopter pilot (on HMS Antrim) at South Georgia, who rescued SAS men stranded on the Fortuna Glacier. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order for his actions Captain M.E.Barrow, CVO DSO RN, (1932-2013) Captain of HMS Glamorgan which was hit by an unexploded bomb from an IAI dagger, causing major damage. Sadly 14 of his crew died though he was one of the most universally loved of the Falkland’s Naval commanders. Captain Brian Young, DSO RN, (1930-2009) Captain of destroyer HMS Antrim and Commander of the ships despatched to recover South Georgia during Operation Paraquet. Information sheets about each of these are enclosed, which gives lots more details about these brave men, their roles, what took place and where.
