Description: The Pegasus was painted red by one of Mobil's Japan subsidiaries, Sekiyu. However, later in the 1930's, a commercial illustrator, Rober The Pegasus was an immortal figure in Greek mythology. The first time the Pegasus was used was in 1911 by the Standard Oil Co. of New York. Soon after, the Supreme Court broke up the oil companies, so the Standard Oil Co. of New York merged with Vacuum Oil. In 1931, the company was known now as Socony-Vacuum Oil. The company officially adopted the Pegasus as their new national trade mark. The Pegasus was painted red by one of Mobil's Japan subsidiaries, Sekiyu. However, later in the 1930's, a commercial illustrator, Robert "Rex" Elmer, made a sleeker design. The new design had the flying horse flying from left to right instead of the older one, flying from right to left. This is a porcelain reproduction sign. It is just beautiful with it very colorful pegasus and blue border. It is 12" across and height. This sign is one of Ande Rooney's 1980's signs created to applaud American adventure of our roadways. It is in good condition. It is not bent. It does have a couple of very minor chips in the porcelain, at the top holes. Judge by my many pictures.
