Description: If you're an uncompromising collector of antique technology, make sure to check out all my listings after you look at this one. I don't think you'll find a better, broader or more balanced assortment of technical antiques anywhere -- hundreds of listings each year, almost all of them featuring eye-popping "gee whiz" gadgetry in exceptional original condition. And don't forget, you can click this link to quickly add and then save me to your favorite seller list and Ebay will automatically send you updates when I put similar new auctions online. Here's a beautiful 1905 Edison banner front Standard cylinder phonograph with an original 14" brass and black horn. The phonograph was sold by the International Textbook Co. of Scranton, PA, and it features their proprietary repeater, which, when depressed, lifts the carriage off the surface of the record and moves it back by several seconds in playing time. The phonograph is in excellent working order, and it needs nothing to be enjoyed immediately. Condition is excellent, close to mint. Japanned finish on the phonograph's bedplate is still deep black and glossy, and the gold decorations are like new. The motor is in excellent condition, with ample torque. The governor assembly is working properly, and the pitch doesn't waver as a cylinder plays through. All of the gearing beneath the bedplate is clean, and the phonograph plays cylinders with ease. The desirable banner-style cabinet decal is crisp and original and nearly perfect. The cabinet finish is likewise original and nearly perfect. The wood has been beautifully preserved, and the finish is clean. The horn is original, and its condition is excellent. Scattered nicks in the enamel consistent with age and authenticity, but no dents or damage and a professionally polished, gleaming brass bell. The hearing tubes (rubber has been replaced) and oil can are both in good condition, and they display beautifully with the phonograph. I'll include with the phonograph an Edison black wax cylinder. If you get tired of listening to the cylinder, there are plenty of other titles available on ebay and elsewhere. Overall, a super nice cylinder phonograph that's ready to go and requires no restoration or servicing. I'm one of ebay's best known, most highly regarded sellers of antique phonographs. I've been selling and shipping them for more than 25 years. When you purchase an antique phonograph from me, you'll receive a phonograph that arrives safely because it's been carefully packed (by me, not by some well-intentioned but nonetheless confounded, doe-eyed teenager working at the UPS store who wouldn't know a phonograph from a farm tool), and you'll receive a phonograph that includes thorough but easy-to-understand set-up and operating instructions, so you won't be left scratching your head, trying to figure out how it works. Sure, you can probably get a lower price from Joe and Janet Barn-Find, but when your "bargain" arrives broken, and without any hint of how it works or how you might be able to put it back together, you'll realize that you really do get exactly what you pay for.
