MILBURN STONE - AUTOGRAPHED SIGNED PHOTOGRAPH 05/14/1941 - HFSID 266732 MILBURN STONE He inscribed and signed this photo in 1941. Vintage Photograph inscribed and signed: "To Estelle Riley -/My Sincere Best/wishes -/Milburn Stone/5-14-41". B/w with brown hue, 5x7. One of Stone's most memorable early roles was an uncredited one in which he appeared a year before he signed this photograph. He portrayed Stephen A. Douglas opposite Henry Fonda's Abraham Lincoln in 1940's Young Mr. Lincoln. In 1941, Stone appeared in three films: The Great Train Robbery, Death Valley Outlaws and The Phantom Cowboy. Milburn Stone (1904-1980) will always be remembered for his Emmy Award-winning role as Dr. Galen "Doc" Adams in the long-running Western, Gunsmoke (1955-1975). Stone, who retired from the series in 1972 due to poor health, had begun his show business career on vaudeville. After making his film debut in 1935, he would appear in a long list of "B" movies before finally finding stardom on the small screen. The earliest Milburn Stone signed photograph we've ever seen. Minor surface creases (not evident head-on). Lightly soiled at blank margins. Pencil notes (unknown hand) on verso (no show-through). Fine condition.
