Description: This is a reproduction set of the Mayberry jailhouse keys as seen in The Andy Griffith Show. It is the exact size and thickness of the original, and is accurate down to the pattern of the grooves on the key. This is my own design, and I make them by hand. For comparison with the original prop, see the photo taken from the Mayberry museum. I have two sets of these, and they are identical save for the tarnish wear patterns that I simulate. I make these by hand using an extremely hard polymer around a copper or zinc core to give it weight. It's finished in a museum polish that is used on metal, so that it has the same patina and feel in the hand. It is indistinguishable from brass even under close inspection. By way of background, I designed my first prop for television almost 35 years ago. The methods were a bit different then. In recent years I keep my design skills sharp by modeling props that are not available, or not done well. This is my own design from the ground up.
