ITEM DESCRIPTION: Here is an Absolutely Gorgeous, Rare & Very Graphic Vintage 1925 Never-Framed Art Nouveau Style ‘Buzza Motto’ Chromolithograph with Metallic Gold Ink of a Stylized & Embossed Nocturne Cottage and Garden Scene with Crescent Moon & Stars and Stylized Trees with Beautiful Dropped-Capital Letters for the poem titled, “Mother”, from the original poem by the well known listed poet & writer ‘Maurine Hathaway’ (American, circa 1883-circa aft. 1940), whose printed name appears at the end of the poem, ‘From the Writings of Maurine Hathaway’—her name sometimes mis-read or mis-printed with the male attribution of ‘Maurice Hathaway’, which is incorrect for this writer. She was known as the “Poetess of the Pines”, and was born in Nebraska and later resided in Thief River Falls, MN and then Minneapolis, MN while working as a writer and poet. She is also known for some of her books of poetry such as; Embers (1910), Passion Lyrics (1911), and Affinity (1914). The illustration is by the well known listed Minneapolis commercial artist & illustrator ‘Lee Mero’ (American, 1885-1977), whose printed signature appears lower right amongst the flowers (very tough to see). ‘Copyright 1925 by The Buzza Co. Minneapolis U.S.A.’, as appears printed lower left just under the poem. The motto features embossed areas of the image itself, title, dropped-capital letters & border areas. The poem reads: “Mother: God sent the birds and sunshine To gladden all the world; He sent the foliage and flowers In radiance unfurled; He sent the June, the stars, the moon, The pearly dewdrops sweet And then He sent You, Mother dear, To make it all complete. From the writings of Maurine Hathaway”. The Motto is on a nice medium-heavier weight dark beige-colored duo-tone and lightly textured mottled/variegated wove paper stock—simply stunning! The Motto is in Excellent Rare+ condition for its vintage age with absolutely no color fade—wonderful rich colors, tones, detail & embossing! The Motto has been tucked away in our archive amongst other prints & lithos since it was purchased by the Meibohm family and hasn’t seen the light of day in all this time—it’s as beautiful as the day it was printed and is pretty much as ‘mint’ as any collector could hope to find in its original never-framed condition. Sheet size is 10” x 7”, Image size is 7-11/16” x 4-15/16”. No tears & no foxing evident! Some normal toning of the stock from age, but isn’t too noticeable amidst the dark beige color of the paper stock itself, but the piece does seem somewhat brittle around the outer edges, as evidenced by a few very tiny corner tips missing which are completely negligible since the outer margins can easily be matted & framed out. This vintage Motto print has never been framed which is always more desirable to collectors since it has never been exposed to older non-archival materials, matburn or lightfade.
