Description: Walnut Hills Lodge No. 483 was a Scottish Rite Masonic lodge located in Cincinnati, Ohio. G.H. Hieber was the WM at this time. The photograph with the matting measures approx 17 in x 13 in. It was removed from an old frame with the matting glued onto the mounting board. It is in excellent condition. WM stands for Worshipful Master, which is the title of the chief officer of a Freemason lodge. In modern lodges, a new Worshipful Master is elected each year. The title indicates that the Master Mason is respected. Freemasonry is organized in smaller units of members, called Lodges, where meetings are held, and members meet together. Freemasons are a diverse group of men from all walks of life, from many religions and many backgrounds. Freemasonry has roots in medieval guilds of stonemasons, but the vast majority of the movement's members are not masters of stonework. The Scottish Rite is a full Rite of Freemasonry, and not an appendant body. The Scottish Rite builds on the ethical teachings and philosophy of the Craft (or Blue) Lodge through dramatic presentations of its individual degrees.
