Description: John Crow’s Devil FIRST EDITION, FIRST PRINTING SIGNED AND INSCRIBED By Marlon James Hardcover with Dust Jacket This is a scarce first edition, first printing (stated) of Marlon James’s very first book, John Crow’s Devil, SIGNED AND INSCRIBED by Marlon James on the title page. This novel, sometimes characterized as “Caribbean Gothic” in style, reportedly was rejected for publication some 70 or more times before finally being accepted. I imagine that the first printing run must have been quite small, as this first novel of Mr. James’s is very scarce as a first edition, first printing (let alone as a signed and inscribed one). The book itself is in good+ to very good- condition, with a fair amount of soiling to the boards, some bumping to the spine ends and corners, edgewear and shelfwear, rubbing to the boards, a couple small faint spots of soiling to the edges of the page block and to a couple of pages, and toning to the pages, the first several of which appear to have been partially folded (but not fully creased) and then straightened. Please see photographs as to condition. The dust jacket — which is NOT price clipped — is in very good condition but for some bumping to the spine ends and corners, edgewear and shelfwear, a few shallow, superficial scratches, some rubbing, and a small amount of staining to the interior of the jacket (which does not show through to the jacket exterior, and which is not visible when the jacket is on). Please see photos as to condition. This collectible book is not price clipped, not ex-library, not remaindered, and not a book club edition. It will be shipped bubble wrapped in a box.
