Description: Vintage Feather Motiff Southwestern Blackware Pottery Jar With Artist Mark We have not been able to identify the maker or place of origin. Although we make no declaration and do not guarantee its place of origin or its maker; based upon its features, it is possibly from the San Idelfonso Pueblo or Santa Clara Pueblo. Someone with experience in identifying this type of pottery might be able to precisely identify its origin by its features and the artist's mark, which appears on the outside edge on the base of the jar. Blackware vessels, with glossy and matte designs of stylized, almost modern, images such as feathers (seen here), were traditionally used as water jars and food storage. The unique black color is achieved by using a fire reduction method for pottery firing. This method reduces the amount of oxygen available in the kiln, and by smothering the fire often with cow or horse dung, the pottery is carbonized. It is in very nice vintage condition with no damage and only normal minor signs of handling. It is approximately 7 inches tall. Use the zoom feature to examine the photos carefully. It is sold as-is as-pictured without warranty. Photos are part of the description.
