This poster -- and others we have listed on eBay -- was designed in the 1960s or 1970s as part of a propaganda campaign to bolster the personality cult around MAO ZEDONG, who was chairman of the Communist Party of China from its creation in 1949 until his death in 1976. A ruthless leader, Chairman MAO was often depicted as a benevolent, god-like figure on these propaganda posters. He was also widely known as the Great Leader, the Great Teacher and the Great Helmsman. The Chinese propaganda poster in this listing, as well as the others we have listed on eBay, measures approximately 15 by 10 inches (38 by 26 cm). We have titled this poster with a number MAO ZEDONG #40 to differentiate it from the other MAO graphics we have listed.
