Description: A lengthy discussion of the merits of the stage and drama. Fascinating sammelband of two printed works, written in manuscript. The notes on the front board say that the works was delivered in (January?) of 1834.The first half of the work is drawn, largely, from the The London Quarterly Review of Richard Sheil's The Tragic Drama, in 1817; strangely, the review largely expanded the the Quarterly's opinions of the stage, which is here presented (not a review of the Sheil work; one wonders if they even attended it).The second half of the work is taken from an article, printed in 1820 in Blackwood's Magazine, On Jeremy Collier and the Opponents of the Drama; which further extolled the merits of drama.Saving the last name, I can't decipher who wrote this manuscript (Johnson or Thomson) and where it was presented, saving the year (1834)On the recto of the rear board is some floor plan layouts. These may be drawings of the stage where it was presented.Certainly opportunity for more research here.Physical Attributes -Book measures approximately 26 x 20 x .5 cm. Softcover, paper. 24 leaves. Last nine leaves blank. Manuscript written on both sides of the leaf (so, 30 pages of manuscript). Condition - See pictures. Worn and toned throughout with occasional fox spots. Some marks to the boards. Some strikethroughs and corrections in the text. Darkened and a little frayed near fore-edge. Slight dog-earing to top corner. Floor plans drawn on recto of rear board.
