Cooper made 22 orbits of the earth during which time he conducted scientific experiments. Cooper was forced to land the spacecraft manually due to automatic control failure. He splashed down in the Pacific Ocean at 7:24PM on 05/16/1963. He was recovered from the Pacific Ocean 36 minutes later by the USS Kearsarge (CVS-33). This cover was Hand cancelled on board the USS Fletcher, one of the Atlantic Recovery Force Ships on day of launch. C/V=$53
