Description: This is an original, rare, and truly exceptional presentation sword. A Model 1860 Staff Officer's presentation sword made for a General Officer. The superlative silver grip is deeply cast in intricate designs containing the scales of justice, a caduceus (one of the oldest symbols in human history), geometric designs and a General Officers star. A General Officers star is also on the gilt knuckle bow and the entire hilt is cast in the most intricate manner. The blade is an unusual triple fuller example also etched in intricate geometric designs. It has a French inspector mark of a crow and on the underside of the counterguard the letters "E. L" with three stars above the initials shows the French maker, E. Lyon of Paris. Exceptional casting and chasing work, plenty more detail of the quill showing the U.S shield. A small star can be easily identified at the top of the grip. There is a very detailed design of the obverse counter guard, with a beautifully executed American eagle superimposed on sunrays and the reverse showing the unusual elaborate design with the upmost attention to detail.
