Description: Original type D2 Matchbox by Lesney box for the 24b Weatherhill Excavator; model first issued in 1959 and deleted in 1966. This D2 box was likely produced in sometime during 1962 period because the inner tabs are plain. After that, it was issued with flags on the tabs until deletion. It was never, to our knowledge, issued in an E type box. This D2 type box was produced for Lesney by Bowater-Scott printers (the logo is on one of the inner tabs and pictured in the gallery.). A D2 shows Arial font and the numbers with serifs. The D2 boxes were made, with a few exceptions, for only a relatively brief time and are popular with collectors, especially in this beautifully well-preserved condition.
