Lee LeBlanc is one of my favorite artists, which may explain why you might see more LeBlanc art here than other sites. The guy was a real character! I knew his family well from living and camping in northern Wisconsin. He had a studio in Minocqua that his wife was the queen of. He never painted there, but preferred the north wing of his house father north out in the woods for creative work. He started his career in commercial art and worked extensively for Disney studios in the cartoon area (Bugs, Goofy, Donald, Porky) and after 30 years or so took the plunge into wildlife art. He has been a tremendous success and his 1st of Arkansas, “Meto Bayou Mallards” is still one of the most valuable FOS’s around. He also won the Federal contest with “Steller’s Eiders” in 1973. This NY3 print shows Wood Ducks on the wing. Note the tree box in the background. Woodies are the only tree nesting duck, and tend to seek out areas of old growth that support their required habitat. The prints shows them in deep forest flying over beaver lodges in the quiet, secret places where they feel safe. The dramatic coloring is a hallmark of LeBlanc’s work.
