LEATHER Joseph Smith Papers Complete Set #199/300

This set will be a handsome addition to your library and an heirloom for future generations. The complete set includes a total of 28 volumes, all bound in full leather. Of these volumes, 23 are standard library edition size while the remaining 5 volumes are oversized facsimile editions of the Revelations and Translations series, containing photographic facsimile reproductions of the original documents. Although several volumes were produced in leather in varying higher quantities, most volumes were limited to 300 numbered leather-bound copies with 100 hors commerce. With most leather sets held by donors who supported the project, serious collectors, or general authorities of the Church, a full set, with matching limitation numbers is exceedingly scare on the market. Anecdotally, I have learned that the publisher estimates about only 75 complete sets with entirely matching numbers were sold. Most sets have mismatched number throughout, or at best, mismatching early volumes such as Journals volume 1 and Revelations and Translations volume 1, which were produced at much higher quantities. After those early volumes failed to sell out completely the publisher reduced the limitation for the remaining volumes and attempted to reassign numbers 300 and below to serious buyers (which is when I acquired #199). Because the Joseph Smith Papers project took roughly 15 years to complete, some buyers stopped collecting for various reasons ranging from changing personal financial considerations to, at worst, death. For these reasons—reduced production mid-publication, the attempt to reassign numbered sets below #300, and the passage of time over a decade a half—the publisher estimates only about 75 complete sets with the same number exist. Condition:Every volume is in near fine condition. The only wear present is slight rubbing to the gilding of the bottom-front fore-edge of the book block of a couple of the larger volumes and minor scuffing and general shelf wear to the original boxes. I am the original owner and spent a decade and a half collecting each volume as they were released, directly from the publisher.
