Large Vintage Alan Sutherland Portrait of Indian Warrior Shield /Spear Oak Frame

Description: A large beautiful oil on canvas portrait of a Native American warrior with a shield and spear by Alan Sutherland, circa early 1970s. It measures 24" x 20" and the oak frame 31 1/2" x 27 1/2" x 4" wide. The painting is in excellent condition with no damage or repairs and signed on the lower right. Please check the photos for condition. Alan Sutherland 1931- 2019 was born in Bombay, India, and lived there for the first three years of his life. Shortly after his 3rd birthday his parents moved back to Edinburgh. He was thirteen when he had his first picture accepted for the Society of Scottish Artists and by the age of twenty two he had three portraits exhibited in the Royal Scottish Academy. He graduated from Edinburgh College of Art in 1952.Alan's career as a professional artist specializing in portraiture has spanned 60 years. He has held exhibitions in The Royal Academy London, the Chelsea Society, the Society of Scottish Artists, the Paris Salon, the Royal Society of Portrait Painters, the Royal Scottish Academy, the Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts and Prouds Art Gallery Sydney.Please email any questions you may have.
