Description: Handsome large-format fold-out color lithographed 1936 map of Canada, printed more than 84 years ago. This map opens to 69.7 x 100 cm [27½" x 39½"] and has wonderful detail throughout, on a scale of 1:5,892,480, or 93 miles to one inch. Topography is delineated by color shading, and details include highways, railroads, canals, tunnels, passes, water falls, glaciers, cities, towns, principal steamship routes, and more. When this map was printed Newfoundland was still a British dominion; it did not become a province of Canada until 1949. Among the other named places and features are Port Arthur, Fort William, the Moose Factory at the lower end of James Bay, Gaspé Peninsula, Vancouver Island, Cariboo Mountains, District of Mackenzie, Yellowknife Preserve, Cape Breton Island, Ottawa, Quebec, Edmonton, Saskatoon, Regina, and the steamship route from Churchill to Liverpool. Condition: This map is in excellent condition, bright and clean, with no marks, rips, or tears. It folds to 9" x 6" and is blank on the back, with no printing on the reverse side. Please see the scans and feel free to ask any questions. This map was publshed by the National Geographic Society as a supplement to the June 1936 edition of The National Geographic Magazine.
